*Argentina’s energy secretariat, which sits under the economy ministry, has announced that it has begun the process to sell its shares in Citelec, the controlling company of Argentina’s leading electricity transmission company, Transener. The energy secretariat said this represented
“another step towards the privatisation” of state-owned energy company Energía Argentina (Enarsa).
“In this way we continue working to ensure that the state abandons its entrepreneurial role and that the energy sector starts growing again with the impetus of the private sector”, reads a post on the energy secretariat’s X account. The government led by President
Javier Milei authorised the full privatisation of Enarsa via a decree published on 25 April, as part of his wider deregulation and
privatisation drive. The same day, the energy secretariat announced it would begin the privatisation of Enarsa by selling its shares in Transener.
