Peru’s President Dina Boluarte accused the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) this week of acting as if Peru is still “a vice-royalty or colony”, with what she denounced as its unwarranted interference in the country’s sovereign affairs. The foreign minister, Elmer Schialer, said the government will decide before Boluarte completes her term in July next year whether to withdraw the country from the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS), which includes the IACtHR and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
