CHILE: Right-wing candidates dominate presidential race

Chile’s presidential election race is officially underway and, judging by the latest opinion polls, the Andean nation could soon be joining the rising number of countries in the Americas governed by a right-wing leader. The majority of the top five contenders that registered to bid for the country’s most senior job by the 18 August deadline, are from the right and far right of the political spectrum. In total there are eight candidates.
