In brief: Mexico suspends postal services to US

*Mexico’s postal service (Sepomex) has suspended its deliveries to the US while it awaits clarification on new procedures once an exemption to tariffs on low-value packages ends tomorrow (29 August). Packages containing less than US$800 of goods had previously been allowed to enter the US tariff-free. In a joint statement, Sepomex and Mexico’s foreign ministry (SRE) noted that the change in US tariff rules will affect all countries and said that several others have also suspended postal shipments to the US, including Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand. The statement added that “Mexico is continuing its dialogue with US authorities and international postal organisations in order to define mechanisms which will allow the resumption of services in an orderly manner, bringing certainty to users and avoiding delays in the delivery of goods”.
