NGO law stokes concern in Ecuador

Ecuador’s national assembly approved a government bill on 26 August that tightens regulation of NGOs operating in the country, in response to claims by President Daniel Noboa that they are a destabilising influence. The legislation recalls similar anti-NGO measures introduced in recent years by authoritarian governments in Venezuela, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.
