Paraguay’s former mayor of the capital Asunción, Óscar Rodríguez, will face a preliminary hearing in early October after a judge accepted that the attorney general’s office had amassed sufficient evidence in a case brought against him for corruption, breach of trust, and criminal association during his tenure. Rodríguez resigned his position as mayor on 22 August, nearly two months after inspectors assumed control over the municipality, unearthing significant evidence of malfeasance, in the wake of the government accepting a request from the comptroller general’s office for an ‘intervention’.
