EL SALVADOR: Opposition politicians convicted over gang links
A handful of former opposition politicians have been convicted over electoral fraud and links to gangs, more than five years after the charges were first presented against them. The convictions have raised renewed complaints of selective justice, given that the country’s authoritarian president, Nayib Bukele, and top officials in his Nuevas Ideas (NI) administration have also faced accusations of dealings with gangs.
