In the space of just two weeks what had looked like a very crowded field for the internal contest within Colombia’s left-wing Pacto Histórico coalition to select a candidate for next May’s presidential elections on 26 October has narrowed to just a two-horse race. Daniel Quintero, a former mayor of Medellín, was the latest contender to pull out of the race this week. On 2 October five other pre-candidates threw their collective weight behind Senator Iván Cepeda, who will now vie with former health minister Carolina Corcho to win the consultation for President Gustavo Petro’s coalition.
