Human rights groups and press freedom organisations have condemned the killing of journalist Miguel Ángel Beltrán Martínez, whose body was found in Durango state on 25 October. The murder, which follows Beltrán’s recent reporting on organised crime, has heightened scrutiny on the efforts of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government to protect journalists and end impunity for their killings.
