Hurricane Melissa devastates Jamaica and Cuba

One of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Caribbean swept across Jamaica and Cuba this week leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. It will be some time before the full cost of the destruction can be calculated. The worst death toll was in Haiti, which avoided the direct passage of the hurricane but was affected by days of heavy rainfall which caused serious flooding and landslides, claiming at least 25 lives.
