ARGENTINA: Milei conducts cabinet reshuffle

Argentina’s President Javier Milei will embark on the second half of his term with the most brash and pugnacious member of his team at the head of his cabinet. Manuel Adorni, who had launched diatribes against the political class, or ‘caste’ in Milei’s preferred nomenclature, in his role of presidential spokesperson, was sworn-in as cabinet chief on 4 November, replacing Guillermo Francos, a veteran politician renowned for tact and diplomacy. The appointment incensed former president Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) who had expected greater reward for his right-of-centre Propuesta Republicana (PRO) after it forged an alliance with Milei’s far-right La Libertad Avanza (LLA) in the federal congressional mid-term elections on 26 October. Milei’s choice of interior minister, however, went some way to placating Macri.
