​CHILE: Jara comes under barrage of fire

Chile’s right-wing presidential candidates subjected Jeannette Jara, the candidate of the ruling left-of-centre coalition, to sustained attacks in the final debate ahead of the first round of elections on 16 November. With Jara’s progression from the first round all but assured, her right-wing rivals were competing to persuade voters to back them to face her in a run-off in December, when polls suggest their respective support bases should coalesce to propel whichever of them makes it through to victory.
