The far-right populist ‘Bolsonarismo’ movement has faced some recent setbacks, with continued legal woes for its torchbearer, former president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2023), and the start of a trial for other defendants in the coup plot to help him stay in power after losing the 2022 election. However, Brazil’s far right can perhaps take some comfort from recent polling data which has shown that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s approval ratings could be plateauing.
