Economy expands. Colombia’s economy grew by 3.6% year-on-year in the third quarter, according to figures released by the national statistics institute (Dane) on 18 November. Growth was driven by an 8% expansion in public administration and defence, compulsory social security schemes, education and healthcare, and social services activities, which contributed 1.3 percentage points to the total figure. Wholesale and retail trade, transport and storage, and accommodation and food services grew by 5.6%. Growth in the first nine months of the year was up by 2.8% on the same period a year earlier, surpassing forecasts.
