REGION: US broadens scope of military campaign
Since launching its first strike on an alleged drug trafficking boat in the Caribbean in mid-September, the US military has, as of 18 November, carried out 21 strikes with a reported death toll of 83 people. These bombardments are no longer confined to the Caribbean – since 22 October there have also been strikes in the Pacific, primarily off the coast of Colombia but also further north towards Mexico.
