*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest figures for its industrial production index (IPI), which show a 0.4% annual decrease and a 0.3% monthly drop in October. This compares to an annual increase of 1.5%
in September, when the IPI decreased by 0.2% in monthly terms. The INE attributed the annual fall to the drop in two of the three sectors making up the IPI – the mining production index (IPMin) and the manufacturing production index (IPMan). The INE’s report showed a 0.8% year-on-year drop in the IPMin, which was unchanged in monthly terms. This was due to decreased activity in the metallic mining sector, which was down 1.7% year-on-year due to a drop in the extraction and processing of copper. The IPMan was down by 0.4% year-on-year and dropped by 0.7% in monthly terms. However, the electricity, gas, and water production index (Ipega) increased by 1.1% in yearly terms and 0.3% as compared to the previous month.
