Mexico’s federal senate approved Ernestina Godoy Ramos as the new federal attorney general on 3 December, following the resignation of Alejandro Gertz Manero a few days earlier. The departure of Gertz, who had been in the role since 2019 and still had some three years left in his term, has sparked rumours around potential dissatisfaction on the part of President Claudia Sheinbaum with regards to his work at the helm of the federal attorney general’s office (FGR).
