MEXICO | Gov’t raises minimum wage. On 3 December Mexico’s government led by President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the minimum wage will rise by 13% in 2026, bringing the general minimum daily wage from M$278.80 (US$15.25) to M$315.04. Meanwhile the daily wage in the country’s northern border free zone (ZLFN) will rise 5% from M$419.88 to M$440.87. The government said that this measure was the fruit of an agreement with unions and the business sector and is in line with its objective of raising the minimum wage to cover the cost of 2.5 so-called basic food baskets by 2030 – when Sheinbaum’s term is due to end.
