In brief: Brazil’s tax take up in yearly terms

*The Receita Federal do Brasil (RFB), Brazil’s tax authority, has released the latest figures for federal tax revenue, showing a monthly tax take of R$226.75bn (US$40.5bn) in November. This marks a 3.75% increase in real terms compared to the revenue of R$209.22bn registered for November 2024. The accumulated tax revenue from January-November totalled R$2.59tn, marking a real increase of 3.25% compared to the total revenue of R$2.39tn in the same period last year. In its latest monthly report, the RFB highlighted yearly increases in various levies, including the PIS/Cofins federal consumption taxes and the taxes on financial operations (IOF). Monthly revenue from PIS/Cofins totalled R$49.67bn, up 3.15% in real terms, revenue from social security contributions in November totalled R$58.39bn, up 2.77%, while the IOF tax take registered a significant increase of 39.95%, with revenue totalling R$8.61bn.
