CUBA: Raúl steps up campaign to lift US embargo

Since taking over the day-to-day running of the country from his brother Fidel last year, Raúl Castro has take a more pragmatic approach to politics with regards to Cuba's foreign policy. In his state of nation address in July this pragmatism was revealed by the promises he made concerning the economy. Significantly, Raúl is well-aware that in order to boost Cuba's economy the US four-decade-long embargo on the island must end. Indeed, the Cuban government is preparing its most challenging case to the UN to demand the US government to lift the embargo.
