BRAZIL: New minister for justice and security

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has appointed Wellington César Lima e Silva, the head of the legal team at state oil company Petrobras, as the country’s new minister for justice and public security. Lima e Silva is not a well-known figure in Brasília, so it is uncertain whether his tenure will mark continuity with or change from his predecessors, Flávio Dino (2023-2024), who is currently a supreme court (STF) justice, and Ricardo Lewandowski (2024-2026), who is a former STF justice (2006-2023).
