In brief: Mexico boosts ties with EU

*Mexico’s Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente has held a meeting with Olof Skoog, deputy secretary-general for political affairs at the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Francisco André, the ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Mexico, to review the progress of the modernised global agreement (MGA) between Mexico and the EU. The officials “highlighted the importance of respect for international law and the commitment to multilateralism”, according to a statement from the foreign ministry (SRE). The meeting took place as Mexico and the EU celebrated their 11th high-level political dialogue and fourth high-level dialogue on multilateral issues. The SRE stated that, during the political dialogue, officials reviewed progress in terms of the upcoming signing of the MGA, discussed the portfolio of potential investment projects under the Global Gateway Initiative, which aims to drive investment in green and digital opportunities, and reviewed various issues on the international agenda. Both parties reiterated their commitment to signing the MGA in the first quarter of 2026.
