Federal lawmakers returned from their recess in Brazil on 2 February, and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva began the new legislative year with increased efforts to shore up support in congress. Lula sent an official message to congress listing the reforms he wants to achieve in 2026, including legislation on security and labour reforms, and on 4 February he invited leading lawmakers from the lower chamber to a dinner event in the presidential country residence outside of Brasília to discuss the government’s legislative priorities before the general elections in October.
