In brief: Cuba’s inflation slows

*Cuba’s national statistics office (Onei) has released new figures showing that monthly inflation in January was 0.67%, bringing the annual rate to 12.52%. This compares with monthly inflation of 0.88% in December when the annual rate was 14.07%. According to the Onei report, the category of hotels and restaurants posted the highest monthly inflation (1.57%), followed by housing services (1.43%), education (1.32%), and goods and various services (0.77%). Two categories posted monthly deflation: health (-0.10%), and alcoholic drinks and tobacco (-1.60%).
