*Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest figures for its economic activity index (IBC-Br), which is considered a proxy to anticipate GDP figures, showing that monthly activity in December was down 0.2% compared to November while the accumulated annual activity for 2025 was up 2.5% compared to the previous year. This annual figure marks a slowdown compared to the annual IBC-Br figure
for 2024, which stood at 3.8%. The national statistics institute (Ibge) has not yet released the 2025 annual GDP growth figures, but if the IBC-Br indicated an annual slowdown, it is likely that the official GDP figures will show a similar trend. The official GDP
growth rate for 2024 was 3.4%. According to estimates by private sector economists surveyed by the BCB in early January, Brazil’s GDP growth rate for 2025 was projected to have dropped to 2.26%.
