In brief: Colombia’s unemployment rate falls year-on-year

*Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has released new figures showing that the national unemployment rate in January stood at 10.9%. This was down from 11.6% in January 2025. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 8.5% in January 2026 was up slightly from 8.4% the previous month. The unemployment rate was higher among women (13.8%) than men (8.7%) and was highest in the cities of Quibdó (Chocó department, 24.6%), Cartagena (Bolívar, 14.6%), and Riohacha (La Guajira, 13.6%). Meanwhile, the national underemployment rate was 7.1%, down from 7.7% in January 2025.
