In brief: Uruguay’s inflation slows

*Uruguay’s national statistics institute (INE) has released the latest figures for its consumer price index (CPI), which showed a monthly inflation rate of 0.35% in February and an annual inflation rate of 3.11%. This marks a deceleration compared to the monthly rate of 0.92% and annual rate of 3.46% registered for January. Of the 13 categories of products and services measured by the INE, the greatest monthly price increases in February were registered in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (+1.52%) and furniture, household goods, and other household items (+1.20%). Only four categories saw monthly deflation in February, with the greatest price decreases registered in clothing and footwear (-1.60%) and recreation, sport, and culture (-0.95%).
