*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its monthly estimate of economic activity (Emae) for January 2026, showing a 1.9% year-on-year increase and a 0.4% rise as compared to the previous month, in seasonally adjusted terms. The monthly rise followed an increase of 1.8% in December, which came after two consecutive months of decline in November (-0.1%) and October (-0.5%). The year-on-year result for January was driven by growth in 10 sectors, with fishing posting the highest rise (+50.8%), followed by agriculture, livestock, hunting, and forestry (+25.1%) and mining and quarrying (+9.6%). Five sectors posted year-on-year declines, including wholesale, retail, and repairs (-3.2%) and electricity, gas, and water (-3.0%). January’s estimated result follows annual growth of 4.4%
in 2025.
