In brief: Brazil’s job creation slows year-on-year

*Brazil’s labour ministry has released new figures from its national employment registry (Novo Caged), which show that a net total of 255,321 jobs were created in February 2026. This marks an increase from the net 115,018 new jobs created in January, but a decrease compared to the net 440,432 jobs created in February last year. New hires in February this year totalled 2.38m, up from 2.24m the previous month but down from 2.62m in February 2025. Meanwhile, a total of 2.13m people were dismissed in February 2026, up from 2.12m dismissals in January and down from 2.18m in February 2025.
