After three months of accelerating rapprochement, diplomatic ties were fully restored between the US and Venezuela on 30 March when the Department of State announced a return to its abandoned embassy in Caracas, two days after Venezuelan diplomats moved back into their country’s embassy in Washington. This has been on the cards for some time and reflects the extremely cooperative nature of Venezuela’s new President Delcy Rodríguez, who has hewed to US demands following the arrest of her predecessor Nicolás Maduro (2013-2026).
