Yussef Akly, the president of Bolivia’s state hydrocarbon company Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), was fired on 30 March. He was brought down by a fuel contamination scandal which has sparked intermittent protests by transport unions since January as drivers seek compensation for engine damage [WR-26-06].
