Claudia Sheinbaum has announced a decree to create a universal healthcare service. Sheinbaum described the decree as
“a historic step” saying that the aim was that, by the time she leaves office in 2030, all Mexicans can receive healthcare through any of the three public health systems: IMSS, IMSS Bienestar, and ISSSTE. According to Sheinbaum, this will make the system more efficient. She announced that from 13-30 April, registration for the new universal system would begin, starting with those aged 85 and over. The first stage of the exchange of services between the institutions will begin from 1 January 2027, with the exchange of specialised services to begin in the second half of 2027.
