Santiago Peña has announced that Paraguay will fully finance the construction of a new bridge linking Paraguay’s Pozo Hondo municipality, Boquerón department, with Argentina’s Misión La Paz area, in Santa Victoria Este municipality, Salta province, according to a press release by Paraguay’s public works ministry. According to the press release, Peña announced the planned bridge, which he said is aimed at accelerating regional integration and promoting the development of the northern Chaco region, during a visit to the Chaco where he joined Public Works Minister
Claudia Centurión to inspect the progress of the Bioceanic Corridor, which ultimately will connect Brazilian ports on the Atlantic to Chilean ports on the Pacific, passing through Paraguay and Argentina. He said that the new bridge, which is to be integrated into this initiative, would “
dynamise” key productive sectors such as agriculture, livestock and industry, as well as reducing logistical costs. He said that with the Bioceanic Corridor, which is expected to be completed early next year, and the construction of the bridge, areas such as Pozo Hondo could become “
hubs for economic development”.
