In brief: Mexico’s foreign minister boosts ties in Belgium

*Mexico’s Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco has met with his Belgian counterpart, Maxime Prévot, in Brussels with a view to strengthening diplomatic links and increasing cooperation in areas including economic exchange, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. During his visit to Belgium, Velasco also met with António Costa, the president of the European Council, to discuss the deepening of cooperation, political dialogue, trade, and investment via the ratification of the modernised global agreement (MGA) between Mexico and the European Union (EU). Velasco stated that President Claudia Sheinbaum would announce the date for the ratification of the deal “soon”. Velasco also met with Markus Beyrer, president of BusinessEurope, a confederation representing businesses in the EU, to discuss “the importance of capitalising on emerging opportunities following the signing of the MGA”.
