In brief: Argentina’s economic activity falls

*Argentina’s national statistics institute (Indec) has released its monthly estimate of economic activity (Emae) for February 2026, showing a 2.1% year-on-year fall, and a 2.6% drop as compared to the previous month, in seasonally adjusted terms. The monthly fall followed rises of 0.4% and 1.7% in January and December, respectively. The year-on-year result for February saw growth in eight sectors, with fishing posting the highest rise (+14.8%), followed by mining and quarrying (+9.9%). Seven sectors posted year-on-year declines, including manufacturing industry (-8.7%), and wholesale, retail, and repairs (-7.0%). The annual result was well below the 0.5% median estimate of economists surveyed by Bloomberg which also reports that the monthly decline is the biggest since 2023.
