The Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) held on to power in The Bahamas in the general election on 12 May. In the process, Prime Minister Philip ‘Brave’ Davis became the first leader since Hubert Ingraham (1992-2002) of the Free National Movement (FNM) to win re-election, and the first PLP leader to do so since Ingraham’s predecessor, the country’s first prime minister, Lynden Pindling (1973-1992). The PLP won a resounding 33 of the 41 seats in the expanded House of Assembly to just eight for the FNM, which was consigned to a second straight term in opposition. Alternation in power between the PLP and FNM duopoly has been the norm since 2002.End of preview - This article contains approximately 659 words.
