In brief: Brazil’s services sector posts another monthly decline

*Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released new figures for the services sector, showing that the total volume of services provided in the country in March dropped by 1.2% compared to February. Meanwhile, in year-on-year terms Brazil’s monthly services volume in March 2026 was up 3.0% compared to the same month last year, and the accumulated volume in the 12 months through March this year was up 2.8% on the preceding 12-month period. This latest monthly result comes amid a recent trend of stagnation and decline for the sector, with every month since November 2025 registering a monthly decrease in services volume except for February 2026, which posted zero variation. The 1.2% monthly drop in March this year is also the largest monthly decrease registered by the Ibge since the 1.4% decrease in November 2024. All five categories of services measured by the Ibge saw monthly decreases in March, with the greatest drops registered in transport and postal services (-1.7%) and other services (-2.0%).
