*Argentina’s Economy Minister
Luis Caputo has hailed a
“historic record” harvest for the 2025/26 agricultural season. In a social media post, Caputo referred to figures released by the secretariat for agriculture, livestock, and fishing which showed that production of the country’s six main crops totalled 163.2m tonnes (t) over the season, up 21.25% on the previous season. Soybean production totalled 49.9m t, while corn production stood at 70m t, a record for the last 20 years. Sunflower production set a historic record of 7.4m t while wheat production also reached a record high of 27.9m t. Barley and sorghum contributed 5.6m t and 2.4m t respectively. This comes as the economy ministry announced fiscal relief measures for farmers on 22 May, lowering export taxes on wheat and barley from 7.5% to 5.5%.
