ECUADOR: Italy lends its mafia-fighting experience

An ‘anti-mafia bill’ that was submitted to Ecuador’s congress on 1 June was drafted with input from the Italian authorities, based on their country’s decades-long campaign against powerful organised crime groups. Italy’s expertise has been sought by President Daniel Noboa’s administration for some time, and is being shared in a context of ideological affinity between Noboa and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
