BRAZIL: Economy remains resilient in first quarter

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has described Brazil’s economy as “remarkably resilient” in the face of external shocks such as the volatility of global oil prices in recent months. Although economic growth is expected to slow in the short term, the IMF projects Brazil’s growth to strengthen in the medium term. This positive assessment came as new GDP figures released by Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) showed higher-than-expected quarterly growth for the first quarter of 2026.
