In brief: Inflation slows in Chile

*Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has announced that monthly inflation in May was 0.2%. This is down from 1.3% in April and 1.0% in March and below all estimates in a Bloomberg survey of analysts that had a 0.4% median forecast. Annual inflation in May stood at 3.9%, down from 4.0% the previous month. Of the 13 categories measured by the INE, nine showed monthly price rises, with the greatest registered in housing and basic services (+0.7%) and transport (+0.6%). Food and non-alcoholic drinks showed the greatest monthly drop in prices, down 0.8%.
