*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has reported a 2.1% rise in industrial activity in April compared with March, while the annual increase in activity stood at 1.8%. This follows a 0.5% drop in March and a 0.4% rise in February in monthly terms on updated figures. The annual rise compares to a fall of 1.5%
in March and a 1.3% drop in February. The monthly rise in the index of industrial activity (Imai) was driven by 7.6% rise in construction, a 1.2% rise in manufacturing industries, while mining was down by 0.7% and utilities (electricity generation and transmission, provision of water and gas) were down 0.3%. In yearly terms, construction and mining were up 10.2% and 3.4% respectively, while manufacturing and utilities both fell 0.3%.
