BOLIVIA: Paz stages COB talks to try and end protests

Bolivia’s beleaguered president, Rodrigo Paz, held talks with the country’s main trade union Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) on 17 June. The COB furnished the Paz administration with a list of demands the day before for the “pacification and recovery” of the country after a month and a half of protests and roadblocks, leaving a death toll of 16 (13 due to the lack of access to timely medical care) and economic losses in excess of US$2.5bn, according to government estimates.
