*Colombia’s energy and mining ministry and national hydrocarbons agency (ANH) have presented their annual report on the country’s hydrocarbons reserves, which remained
“stable” in 2025. Proven oil reserves stood at 2.02bn barrels, allowing for 7.4 years of production at current rates – up from an estimate of 7.2 years in last year’s report. Proven natural gas reserves totalled 1.72tn cubic feet, allowing for 5.9 years of production, while recent discoveries off the Caribbean coastline are expected to result in an expansion of gas reserves in the short and medium term. The report states that
“Colombia has a solid base of energy resources” and that
“measures adopted to optimise the management of reserves and resources are producing concrete results for the country’s energy security and sovereignty”.
