In brief: Carmaker Audi México strikes pay deal with union

*The Mexican unit of German carmaker Audi has reached an agreement with the trade union Sindicato Independiente de Trabajadores de Audi México (Sitaudi) for a wage rise, averting a possible strike at the assembly plant in San José Chiapa municipality, Puebla state, which employs over 5,000 people. The deal has been welcomed by Pueblo’s state ministry for economic development and labour (SDET) which notes that the deal includes a salary rise and bonus which is worth 19.5% in total. The local and international media report that this comprises a 4.6% pay rise and 14.9% in benefits.  According to the same reports, the union initially pushed for a 15% wage ‌increase and a 5% rise in benefits as part of its 2026 contract review, and had threatened strike action on 16 June although this was pushed back amid a new deadline of 26 June to agree a deal.
