MEXICO: Controversial former attorney general declares assets
Mexico’s former attorney general Alejandro Gertz Manero (2019-2025) has submitted a declaration of assets to the ministry of anticorruption and good governance. A close ally of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), Gertz, who had previously avoided making a public declaration of wealth, was obliged to declare his assets upon joining the foreign ministry (SRE) in his new role as Mexico’s ambassador to the UK. Gertz’s declaration has drawn much scrutiny given his hitherto reluctance to declare his wealth and previous allegations of illicit enrichment.
