In brief: Remittances up in Mexico

*Mexico’s central bank (Banxico) has released remittance figures for May 2026, announcing that remittances to the country totalled US$5.61bn. This represents a 3.8% increase year-on-year and is up from US$4.98bn in April. It also reflects a recovery from a monthly drop in remittances between March and April. May represents the fourth consecutive month of annual increases in the remittance total, following an increase of 3.7% in April, 4.9% in March, and 0.4% in February. From January-May 2026, remittances totalled US$25.29bn, up 2.8% on the US$24.59bn received during the same period in 2025. Remittance inflows last year totalled US$61.79bn, down from the US$64.75bn received in 2024 and US$63.31bn in 2023.
