BRAZIL: Agribusiness dissatisfied over government subsidies

The Brazilian government unveiled the latest iteration of its ‘Plano Safra’ (Harvest Plan) annual agriculture investment programme on 30 June. The 2026/2027 Plano Safra will offer a record sum of R$525.1bn (US$101.35bn) in loans and subsidies to medium-sized and large agricultural producers, marking an increase of R$9bn compared with 2025/2026. However, agribusiness groups and lawmakers who advocate for the interests of the sector have criticised the government, arguing that the Plano Safra is insufficient.
