In brief: Monthly inflation picks up in Costa Rica

*Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures showing that monthly inflation was 0.71% in June, bringing the year-on-year rate to -0.32% - far below the central bank (BCCR)’s target for 2026 of 3% +/-1. This compares with a monthly rate of 0.27% in May when the year-on-year rate was -0.97%. According to Inec, the monthly inflation rate was driven by transport (+2.98%), due to the rise in oil prices as a result of the conflict in the Middle East, and recreation, sport, and culture (+1.73%). The only category to register monthly deflation was alcoholic drinks and tobacco (-0.36%).
