In brief: Inflation slows in Panama

*Panama’s national statistics institute (Inec) has released new figures showing monthly inflation in June was -0.3%, down from 0.3% in May. This brings the annual rate to 2.3% in June, down from 2.5% in May. Monthly deflation in June was driven by a 1.5% fall in transport prices, due to a 4.2% drop in fuel and lubricants for personal transport, and a 3.8% drop in international air transport. Other categories to post monthly declines were: alcoholic drinks and tobacco (-0.6%); housing, water, electricity, and gas (-0.4%); and furniture, household equipment, and routine home maintenance (-0.2%). Last year closed with 0.4% inflation on the latest updated figures.
